YouTube has expanded its Shopping tools so eligible U.S. creators can tag Amazon products in videos, Shorts, and livestreams. When viewers discover a tool, accessory, piece of equipment, or other product through the video, they can access the tagged product rather than searching through a long description or trying to identify it themselves. The expansion brings product discovery closer to the content itself and gives creators another way to connect useful recommendations with measurable sales activity.
This is particularly relevant to welding and trade creators because much of their content naturally involves products. A welding video may feature a helmet, grinder, torch, marker, clamp, consumable, camera accessory, or shop tool. A fabrication tutorial may show a specific piece of equipment being used in a real project. When the creator can connect those products to the video, the content can serve two purposes: teaching the audience and helping viewers find the equipment used in the process. YouTube has also been developing additional Shopping tools, including product tagging improvements and more direct brand links, showing a broader movement toward connecting video content with commerce.
What this means for your business
The practical action is to make a list of the products that appear regularly in your videos. Start with items that viewers commonly ask about, such as welding helmets, grinders, torches, gloves, markers, cameras, microphones, or shop equipment.
For future videos:
Mention the product naturally while demonstrating it.
Explain what it does and why you use it.
Include the product in the video description.
Use YouTube Shopping product tags if your account is eligible.
Make the video useful even for viewers who do not buy anything.
The strongest approach is not to turn every video into an advertisement. Instead, create helpful content that answers questions, demonstrates real work, compares tools, or explains how a product is used. Product links then become an additional resource rather than the entire purpose of the video.
For example, a video titled “Three Welding Markers I Actually Use in the Shop” could demonstrate each marker, explain the differences, and give viewers a clear way to find the products. A fabrication tutorial could identify the grinder, clamps, or measuring tools used during the build. This creates a natural connection between education, product discovery, and potential revenue.
YouTube Shopping is not available to every account, and eligibility, product availability, and commission terms can vary. Businesses should review the current requirements inside YouTube Studio before planning a campaign around the feature.
We have not physically used this feature yet but it’s something we will be trying out soon in one of our next videos. More details to come.
