A great trade show is about more than the products on display. It is about the people you meet, the ideas you discover, and the connections that continue long after everyone heads home. For businesses in welding, fabrication, metalworking, and manufacturing, those experiences can also provide weeks of valuable social media content.
Last week, the Slag Tag Media team was in Las Vegas for FABTECH 2026, held October 21–23 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. FABTECH is North America's largest metal forming, fabricating, welding, and finishing event. With more than 1,400 exhibitors and over 700,000 square feet of exhibition space, the show brought together companies, professionals, creators, and industry leaders to explore new technology, products, and manufacturing solutions. Visit the official FABTECH website to learn more about the event.
FABTECH 2026 Expo Recap: Welding, Fabrication, and Industry Connections
One of the best parts of FABTECH is seeing how many different corners of the metalworking industry come together under one roof. From welding equipment and fabrication tools to automation, finishing technology, and innovative manufacturing solutions, there is something to discover around nearly every corner.
We had the opportunity to connect with companies and people across the industry, including ESAB, Uniweld, Holemaker Technology, Southern Leather Works, Markal, Bessey, Up In Smoke Welding Apparel, Bug-O Systems, and Salt City Steel and Picket Master Pro. We also enjoyed seeing The Wild Bison - Metal Art Co. represented at the Uniweld booth.
The experience extended beyond the show floor. Industry gatherings, including Arcs & Ales, the ESAB influencer get-together at Topgolf, and other welding community events, offered additional opportunities to catch up with familiar faces and meet new people. These conversations are an important part of what makes a welding expo or manufacturing trade show valuable.
FABTECH is also a reminder that the welding industry is much bigger than the work happening inside any one shop. Welders, fabricators, manufacturers, suppliers, educators, artists, and content creators all contribute to a community that continues to share knowledge and move the industry forward.
What Trade Shows Teach Us About Social Media
Here is the lesson for any small business: the value of an event should not end when you leave the venue.
Trade shows create natural opportunities for social media content. You can introduce a company you met, share a product that caught your attention, explain something you learned, or post a behind-the-scenes look at your experience. A single event can produce short videos, photographs, interviews, educational posts, and follow-up conversations.
You do not have to attend a major event like FABTECH to apply this strategy. A local business expo, industry conference, supplier visit, makers market, or community event can provide similar opportunities. The key is to share something useful rather than simply posting that you were there.
Remember to tag the people and businesses involved when appropriate, ask permission before recording others, and make sure your posts accurately represent what you learned or experienced.
What This Means for Your Business
Whether you are a welding contractor, a fabrication shop, a manufacturer, a creative business, or a local service provider, events can help you build relationships and demonstrate your knowledge.
Instead of publishing one recap and moving on, break the experience into smaller pieces of content. Share one new product, one useful conversation, one lesson, and one business connection. This gives your audience multiple reasons to engage with your content while helping the people and businesses you met receive additional visibility.
It also gives your website an opportunity to attract people searching for the event, the industry, or related products and services. Useful articles with clear titles, accurate event information, and relevant links can help readers discover your business through search engines long after the event has ended.

Today's 5-Minute Task
Create one piece of content from a recent experience.
Think about a trade show, customer visit, project, or conversation from the past few weeks. Choose one useful detail and draft a short post explaining what happened and why it matters to your audience.
Add a photo or video if you have one, and tag the relevant business or person when appropriate. You do not need to tell the entire story in one post. Start with one useful takeaway and build from there.
