If you have ever spent hours trying to make the perfect Reel, here is a reason to rethink your approach. During its third-quarter 2026 results, Meta reported that nearly 45% of recommended Instagram Reels were less than one day old, an increase of more than 11 percentage points from the previous quarter. Meta also reported record time spent on Instagram, with improvements to its recommendation system helping people discover content that interests them. You can read more in Social Media Today's report on Meta's platform updates.
That does not mean Instagram requires every business to publish a Reel daily, or that a new video is guaranteed to reach more people. It does suggest that fresh content has a place in the recommendation mix. For small businesses, that is encouraging because useful content does not always require elaborate production. A quick look at a project in progress, a short demonstration, a before-and-after comparison, or an answer to a common customer question can be worth sharing while the moment is still relevant.
What This Means for Your Business
You do not need to turn your business into a full-time content studio. Instead, build a habit of capturing small moments as they happen. A welder could show one step in a fabrication project. A retailer could demonstrate how a product solves a common problem. A service business could answer a question customers ask every week.
Focus on making the video original, clear, and useful to the people you want to reach. Get to the point quickly, add context with a short caption, and give viewers a reason to watch. Trends can be useful when they fit your business, but you do not need to copy every popular sound or format.
Most importantly, do not confuse freshness with frequency. Posting something useful when you have something worth sharing is better than publishing filler simply to meet an arbitrary schedule. Track how your own audience responds and use that information to improve future content.
Today’s 5-Minute Task
Improve the opening of one Reel.
Open a recent Reel you have published, or a draft you have not posted yet. Review the first two seconds and ask yourself:
Can viewers immediately tell what the video is about?
Does the opening show something interesting, useful, or visually clear?
Could you remove a slow introduction and get straight to the point?
Make one small improvement to the opening, cover, or first line of the caption. You do not have to remake the entire video. A clear beginning can help viewers understand why they should keep watching.
