〽️ Is Social Media Becoming All About Video? What Welding Businesses Should Do Now
Social media platforms continue to experiment with video-first experiences, and businesses that create visual content should pay attention.
Recent reporting from The Verge describes tests in which Facebook opens directly into a full-screen video feed, while Instagram is also testing ways to prioritize Reels. These experiments have been observed in select markets, so they should not be mistaken for changes affecting every user.
For welding businesses, this raises a practical question: Are you capturing enough video of the work you're already doing?
You don't need to become a full-time content creator or turn every project into a production. A few seconds of welding, a fabrication process, a before-and-after comparison, or a finished piece rotating on the workbench can give people a better look at what you do. Video can show details that a photograph sometimes misses, including movement, sound, scale, and the process behind the finished product.
That doesn't mean photographs are obsolete. Finished-project photos, educational graphics, and carousels can still serve useful purposes. The goal is to build a collection of content that gives you options, rather than depending on a single format.
What this means for your business
Start capturing video while you're already working. You don't need to publish every clip, and you don't need to change your entire content strategy because a platform is testing a new interface.
Instead, build a small library of original footage. When you have a project worth sharing, you'll have more material to work with. You can turn a short clip into a Reel, a longer process video, or part of a future educational post.
The advantage isn't predicting exactly what an algorithm will favor. It's having useful content ready when an opportunity to share it comes along.
Today's 5-Minute Task
Capture three short vertical videos at your shop.
Record one clip of a process, one close-up of an interesting detail, and one shot of a finished project. Aim for 5 to 10 seconds per clip.
You don't have to edit or publish anything today. Just save the footage somewhere you can find it later. You're starting a content library that can make future posts easier to create.
