〽️ Tomorrow Is Get to Know Your Customers Day. Start a Conversation, Not a Sale.

Tomorrow, Thursday, October 15, is Get to Know Your Customers Day, a quarterly observance that encourages businesses to learn more about the people they serve. It is a useful reminder that social media should be more than a place to advertise. It can also be a place to listen, ask questions, and build relationships. National Day Calendar: Get to Know Your Customers Day

Here is a simple way to participate: ask your audience one question you genuinely want answered. A welding shop could ask what project customers want to learn more about. A restaurant could ask which menu item deserves a permanent spot. A local service business could ask what part of the customer experience it could make easier. On Instagram, you could use a Story poll or question sticker. If you have an Instagram broadcast channel, Meta also offers replies and prompts to encourage conversations. The important part is what happens after you ask. Read the responses, reply when appropriate, and look for patterns. If several people ask the same question, that could become your next post, video, FAQ, or website update. If someone offers constructive criticism, consider whether there is something you can improve. You do not need hundreds of responses to learn something useful. A handful of honest answers can give a small business a clearer picture of its customers.

What This Means for Your Business

You do not have to offer a discount, launch a giveaway, or create an elaborate campaign to participate. Give your audience a reason to talk to you, then show them that their answers matter.

Think of social media as a two-way street. If every post is an advertisement, people have little reason to join the conversation. When you ask thoughtful questions and respond to the answers, you give customers a chance to help shape what your business does next.

Today's 5-Minute Task

Create one customer question.

  1. Spend one minute identifying something you want to understand about your customers.

  2. Spend two minutes writing a clear, specific question.

  3. Spend two minutes publishing it on the platform where your audience is most likely to respond.

Try a question such as: "What's one thing you wish more businesses in our industry would explain?"

Then check back and respond to the answers. The goal is not to collect comments for the sake of a number. It is to learn something you can use.
