〽️ Slag Tag Media Weekly Wrap-Up

It has been another busy week across social media. This week's updates touch three important parts of online business: advertising, community discovery, and privacy. You do not need to change your entire strategy every time a platform updates something, but understanding these changes can help you make better decisions about where and how you spend your time.

1. Meta Is Continuing to Improve Its AI-Powered Ad Systems

In an October 28 update, Meta outlined improvements to the AI systems that determine which ads people see. Meta reported that improvements to its ad ranking systems drove 8.3% more ad clicks and a 15.7% increase in conversions on Facebook during the second quarter of 2026. The company also reported additional improvements from its newer systems during the third quarter. These are Meta's reported results, not a guarantee that every advertiser will see the same outcome. What this means: You cannot control every part of the advertising algorithm, but you can control the quality of your offer and creative. Use clear product photos, explain what you provide, and test different versions of your ads. Judge success by meaningful business results, such as qualified inquiries, sales, and cost per lead, rather than clicks alone.

2. Reddit Is Separating Content Discovery From Catching Up

On October 28, Reddit announced two feed options: For You and Following. For You combines posts from communities people have joined with recommendations based on their interests. Following focuses on communities they have already joined. The update is rolling out globally over the next few weeks, and users can switch feeds and return to the one they last viewed. What this means: Reddit is another reminder that people may discover content outside the accounts and communities they already follow. If your customers use Reddit, look for relevant communities where people ask questions about your industry. Learn the rules, listen to the conversations, and contribute useful answers when appropriate. Treat it as a place to build credibility, not somewhere to drop advertisements into unrelated discussions.

Note: We dont talk about Reddit very often but we’re looking to make some changed in that department and start to cover more about it and also use it more often as well.

3. Discord Is Preparing to Make Some Public Community Discussions Searchable

On October 27, Discord announced changes that will make its Discoverable Servers easier to find through the web. Starting November 16, 2026, Discoverable Servers will have web pages that may include summaries of public-channel discussions. From mid-December, selected messages from public channels may also appear in search results. Server administrators can control which channels participate, and members have a setting to prevent their messages from appearing. These changes apply to Discoverable Servers, not private servers or direct messages. Discord’s official announcement Discord

What this means: Public community conversations may become a way for new people to discover useful expertise. But visibility also means paying attention to privacy. If you manage a qualifying Discord community, review its web visibility settings before the rollout. Make sure the channels you choose to expose are appropriate for a wider audience, and remind members to avoid sharing private customer information in public discussions.

One Trend to Watch Next Week

Social media discovery is expanding beyond follower counts. Platforms are using recommendations to introduce people to new content, while public community discussions may increasingly appear in web searches. That makes clear, useful information more valuable. A post that answers a specific customer question, explains a process, or solves a common problem can give people a reason to discover and remember your business.

This does not mean every post will receive more reach. It means businesses should make their content understandable, relevant, and worth finding, while staying aware of where their information is visible.

What This Means for Your Business

You do not need to join every platform or adopt every new feature. Focus on the places where your customers already spend time and the questions they repeatedly ask. A welder might explain how to prepare a part for fabrication. A local service business might answer a common pricing question. A maker might show the steps behind a finished product.

Create useful content, participate in relevant communities, and protect information that should not be public. Keep measuring whether your efforts lead to conversations, inquiries, and sales. Those outcomes matter more than chasing every new feature or an isolated spike in views.

Today’s 5-Minute Task

Review one place where your business information is publicly visible.

If you manage a Discord Discoverable Server, open Server Settings, go to Web Presence, and review which public channels may appear on the web. Adjust the settings if any conversations should not be exposed. Also review your personal message visibility setting under User Settings and Data & Privacy.

If you do not manage a Discord server, spend five minutes reviewing one public business profile or community you control. Check for outdated contact details, private customer information, or anything you would not want shared beyond its original audience. Make one correction if needed.

Follow Friday: SendCutSend

This week's Follow Friday recommendation is SendCutSend, a useful resource for makers, welders, fabricators, and small businesses working with custom parts. The company offers services including laser cutting, waterjet cutting, CNC machining, and finishing, with options that support projects ranging from prototypes to production runs.
