Music can make a good video more engaging, but choosing a track is also a licensing decision. YouTube is making one part of that process easier. On November 3, 2026, the company announced that its music creation feature inside YouTube Studio’s Replace song tool is expanding to creators in more countries. The feature was already available to creators in the United States earlier this year. The expansion now makes it available in most countries outside the European Economic Area.
When a video receives an audio Content ID claim, eligible creators can open the Replace song tool and select Create under Suggestions. YouTube generates four instrumental tracks, each three minutes long. A creator can use one to replace the claimed music, and the Content ID claim is automatically removed once all the claimed audio has been replaced. YouTube’s Help Center identifies the tracks as AI generated. There are some limits: the feature is currently unavailable in the YouTube Studio mobile app, does not offer custom prompts or vocals, and the generated music is intended only for content created on YouTube. YouTube also warns that saved edits in Studio Editor cannot be reverted, so keep a copy of the original video before making changes.
The bigger lesson is that music rights do not automatically travel with a video. TikTok’s business guidance, for example, tells businesses to use its Commercial Music Library for commercial TikTok activity, including organic posts, video ads, and branded content. Its general music library is not cleared for commercial business use. YouTube makes a similar distinction with its new generated tracks: they are intended for YouTube content, not as a soundtrack you can freely reuse everywhere. A song being available inside one app does not establish that you have permission to use it in a business video on every other platform.
This matters because many small businesses create one video and share it on Instagram Reels, TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube Shorts. If the music is added to the video before it is exported, that same track travels with the file. It may not be licensed for every destination or for every type of use. A safer workflow is to keep a clean master video with your original voice, shop sounds, or other audio you own, then add music separately inside each platform using an appropriate library. Alternatively, use music you have licensed for every platform and commercial purpose where the video will appear.
What This Means for Your Business
Before choosing music, decide where the video will be published. If it is going to multiple platforms, check that the music license specifically covers those destinations and the intended use, including advertising or paid promotion when applicable. Keep a record of the track and its license. YouTube’s new replacement tool can be useful when fixing an existing copyright claim, but it is not a shortcut to obtaining music rights for every social network.
Today’s 5-Minute Task
Protect your content: Open one of your recent business videos and identify where its background music came from. Check which platforms and uses that music is licensed for. If you cannot confirm that it covers every destination, keep a clean version of the video without that track before sharing it elsewhere.
